Created in 1977 as a partnership among businesses along the Meridian Corridor with the goal of stimulating economic development and stability in the area, removing blight and deterioration, and enhancing the quality of life for area residents and employees. Near North's programs have ranged from enforcement of commercial zoning ordinances and development of an industrial park to housing construction and beautification activities. Geographically, NNDC serves the area bound by 38th Street (North), 10th Street (South), Meridian Street (East), and I-65 (West).
Near North Development Corporation (NNDC) exists to generate economic and social vitality in the community through public-private partnerships that deliver positive residential and commercial development.
Since 2007, NNDC has constructed 109 Affordable Single-Family Homes sold to buyers whose household income is at or below 80% of the Area Median Income.
NNDC is currently constructing two single-family homes at 2416 and 2418 N Capitol Avenue, to be completed in Winter/Spring 2024.
NNDC has a rich history in the development and rehabilitation of multi-family affordable housing in the Near North District.
Near North is currently working with partners at Crestline Development to build 112 affordable apartments and 15 affordable townhomes at 22nd and Meridian Street with a project completion date of 2025.
At NNDC, we are not limited to affordable development projects. We recently broke ground on a $2.3 million connector trail that surrounds Barton Park. This trail is designed to increase accessibility to community amenities like Barton Park and the Fall Creek Trail, while also making transportation throughout our shared neighborhoods safer, more convenient, and a healthier way to get around.
